Design interns will leverage their skills to create documentation, graphics, and dashboard designs tailored to our internal and client-facing needs. They will also gain experience in content strategy, information design, UX/UI processes, data visualization tools, and internal team collaboration within a consulting firm.

Internship Specifics

Work independently and collaboratively on diverse projects under the guidance of design directors and managers, contributing to Playfair’s design projects and graphics library

Participate in concept development, ideation, and creative strategy discussions for graphics and potentially user interfaces (e.g. dashboards, websites), considering purpose, audience, and release strategy

Lead design projects from concept to product-ready files, ensuring visually compelling and consistent designs across platforms

• Present design work to team members, offering rationale and support for choices and approaches

• Ensure high-quality creative work with attention to detail, consistency, accuracy, and reusability

 

Candidate Description

As someone eager to excel as a Design Intern, your blend of creativity, effective communication skills, and a natural understanding of what users want makes you a perfect fit for our team in the dynamic field of data visualization. Your passion for transforming abstract concepts into visually compelling designs targeted to our audience aligns seamlessly with our commitment to making complex data accessible and engaging. Your eagerness for exploration and continuous improvement is a valuable asset, infusing fresh creativity into our work within the data-centric realm.

 

Criteria/Details

Open to students currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Graphic Design, UX/UI Design, Human-Centered Design, Fine Arts or similar fields

• For undergraduate applicants, we expect candidates to be at least in their sophomore year

• Available to international students with existing work authorization

• 160 total hours, worked in a flexible, part-time capacity, over 8 weeks

• Compensation of $15 per hour

• Primarily remote, but some in-person meetings may be required

 

Required/Desired Skills

• Possess genuine curiosity and interest in visual analytics and working with companies and brands across all industry types. The experience or interest in the data industry or related industry will be valuable in the creation of design assets for our audience

• Applicants should have a portfolio to share with samples of work demonstrating proficiency designing social media, email marketing, website pages and/or dashboards, and/or digital ads

• Open to knowledge across different design tools, such as Adobe Creative Suite tools as Illustrator and Photoshop

• Open to learn and integrate the design process into Figma for file compatibility of final deliverables

• Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and G-Suite products (i.e. Gmail, Google Drive, etc.) is preferred

 

Additionally, Interns Must

• Be reliable, responsive, and conduct themselves in a professional manner

• Demonstrate a commitment to timeliness

• Possess good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, and be able to interact with a wide variety of personality types, across a variety of communication channels

• Be discreet and able to maintain strict client and company confidentiality

• Have the ability to use a computer keyboard and be able to tolerate repetitive motion and eye strain resulting from extensive utilization of computer hardware and software

• Reside in Florida, Kansas, or Missouri
